  • Welcome To Northwest Sherpa Association

Sherpas are settling in various parts of the United States. This is also true in the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver B.C. Adapting to life in America can be challenging, and families often feel culturally and socially isolated. Because of this, Sherpa families & friends feel it is important to create and maintain a sense of community. As a result, the Northwest Sherpa Association has been formed since 2003. The objective is to welcome and assist the newly arrived Sherpa friends and families and those already living in the Northwest. Through coordinating various social events such as Losar, summer picnic, camping, cultural talks, lectures, etc. and organizing workshops relating to issues relevant Sherpa community members living in the Northwest, we hope to ease the community members' transition to life in the Northwest. By engaging in these activities, it will also allow Sherpas living in the Northwest to practice and to pass on valuable cultural traditions to future generations. In addition to helping each other adapt to life in North America, members in our organization also recognize the importance of uplifting the life of the people living in our impoverished country of Nepal. Therefore, we also organize fundraising activities that can contribute to improving the quality of education in rural Nepal that can better people's livelihood and at the same time allow them to sustain their cultural traditions and the environment.
